Intel Application Accelerator
 http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/iaa/
"The Intel Application Accelerator reduces the storage sub-system
bottleneck, enabling the processor and other system level hardware
to be to be more productive and efficient. It is not a requirement
for your operating system to work properly. It is important to
install the Intel(r) Chipset Software Installation Utility prior
to installing the Intel(r) Application Accelerator so that the
Intel chipset is properly recognized by the operating system. If
you do not install the Intel Chipset Software Installation
Utility, the Intel Application Accelerator may not work on your
system."

Microsoft Office Substitute              * Free *

This is definitely a program suite that you must check out. In a
nutshell, the 602Pro PC Suite 2000 can provide budget-conscious
people with a low-cost solution to document creation. How low? How
does zero sound? I'm amazed that this company gives it away. Why
spend $200 (or more) for Microsoft Office, when you can do the
same things with this thing. Granted, some add-on features - such
as the Print Pack and the Plus Pack - will cost something, but if
you don't need them (and you probably won't), then you don't have
to buy them. Even if you did, they cost far less than if you
bought the... alternative. The 602Pro Suite includes a Word
Processor, Spreadsheet, Photo Editor, and WordArt program, with
possibly more that I haven't gotten around to test. This fourteen-
megabyte package is well worth the time it takes to download. Did
It's compatible with Word and Excel documents.

{Flip-flop sound inputs} New audio tool. So, what
exactly does this "Audio Switcher" do? It lets you switch the
recording input device for your
soundcard at two different times during the day. Set the audio
sources and then tell it when you'd like them to switch. "Your
sound card must support 'mutable' inputs as opposed to
'selectable' inputs." You've got to hear it to believe it.
If you're someone who uses the PC to record audio
frequently, this will prove itself to be an indispensable utility.

can't take anymore. Or, you could put that ol' brain to rest and
try this program. It'll take a list of files and tell you which
ones will fit snuggly onto your CD. This will ensure that you take
full advantage of the CD's capacity. Your settings will be saved
for the next burning session, too. "Just specify the size to use
and how close to 100% you want to fill [the CD]."

Anti-Outlookers find that it can be a chore to register the
desired email client to handle mailto: links within Internet
Explorer. Should you find yourself in that particular predicament,
a smidge of registry work can help you out. Start by navigating
to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Clients \ Mail. Create a key
for the e-mail application you're using. Next, you'll need to
create three more subkeys cascaded underneath of each other as
follows: Mail_Application_Name \ shell; Mail_Application_Name \
shell \ open; Mail_Application_Name \ shell \ open \ command.
Under the 'command' subkey, create a new String (REG_SZ) value and
name it (Default) - with the parentheses. The Data portion of the
value should be set to the full path of the executable file for
your e-mail application. In Internet Explorer click Tools |
Internet Options | Programs tab and check the list of Email
applications for your newly added entry. Select it as the default
and give it a whirl! Note that some e-mail applications won't
interpret the data sent over from IE; be aware that the process
may behave rather strangely with your client.

Need to know something about Outlook Express?
Turn to Tom Koch ( TOMSTERDAM.COM).
What could you do to keep spam from entering their Inbox.
Set up a rule in Outlook Express. Click Tools |
Message Rules | Mail. In the Conditions field, place checkmarks
next to "Where the From line contains people" and "Where the To
line contains people" (both of them). In the Actions field, place
a checkmark in the "Delete it from server" option. Then, in the
Rule Description field, click on the "contains people" option. In
the resulting dialog, enter the "@" symbol (sans quotes), click
the Add button, then before clicking OK, click the Options button
and select the "Message does not contain the people below" option.
Do the same for the second "contains people" Rule Description
hyperlink. Now, click on the "and" and select the "Messages match
any one of the criteria" option. Finally, name the new rule
whatever you wish. WARNING:  Apply with caution.

Most of us have reinstalled Windows a few times. In doing such,
we've had to reinstall programs, too. The binaries are relatively
simple to set up, but what about any information you may have
customized or created in previous installations? Better make sure
you grab that stuff before it's too late. MSN stores all your
Messenger contacts online (and now allows you to back up / restore
them locally). What about ICQ? Open up its folder and look for the
files with your UIN. For me, that'd be 144832.* (with the asterisk
being the wildcard, translating as any extension). Put these in
the same location on any other computer (or Windows installation).
Of course, we know that Outlook stores its stuff in a PST file,
and Outlook Express uses the DBX format. So, what else should be
copied on a regular basis? Any accompanying INI / CFG file. For
the most part, these can be found in the program's folder, though
some are kept in your Windows folder. Each may contain important
software registration information or customizations.

Compact Now
t's a good idea to hit that once in a while because as
you work within Outlook or NS  the Folders  tend
to grow in size, but has a lot of wasted space mixed in (due to
deleted items being removed). It's always a good idea to make a
copy of the file,

MS WORD
Enabling automatic journal entries is a great way to keep track of
how your time is spent without having to track it by hand.
Consultants can easily keep track of time spent on proposals,
writers are able to log time spent cranking out chapters or while
editing. This is all able to be done automatically by the Journal.
As soon as you open a Word document, the clock starts. When you
close the document, the timer stops. When you check your journal,
there will sit a tidy notation of the time elapsed. Another leap
forward is the ability for Outlook to serve as a pseudo contact
management application, associating specific contacts you want to
track with the Journal, logging phone calls, meeting requests, e-
mails, tasks, and any documents you've worked on for the contact.
Opening up this world of automatic info assimilation is easy.
Click Tools | Options | Journal Options. Now, simply check the
boxes for each item, application and contact you want recorded.
The Journal will be record all applicable movements.

What happens when you click on a link? You're usually
transported to another Web page. However some e-mail newsletters
have now track those clicks - and associate them with your e-mail
address. Hover over a link and check the status bar before clicking on it.
Spammers may be using this to check your address. Clicking isn't the
only way the same holds true for any images that may load in the
process. Of course, loading ANY image from the Web may very well
yield the same result.

Internet Shortcuts in Outlook Express Do Not Start Web Browser
 http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q177/0/54.asp
"When you double-click an Internet shortcut in an Outlook Express
e-mail message, your Web browser may not start or connect to the
Web page. This behavior can occur for one of the following
reasons: 1) a short file name (standard 8.3 naming) is used for
the program name associated with Internet shortcuts; and 2)
Internet Explorer is not currently your default Internet browser,
and the browser that was formerly the default is no longer
installed."
